Snow and no shed or garage
The February 8th blog post talks about our recent move. The only downside is that we are temporarily without storage for our "garage" items and bikes. Some things fit into the basement, but the bikes are having to live outside for now. And, hubby did not have time to get them wrapped up before the snow.
Woooo Hoooo.....
Well, what else can one say about beboppin' around on two wheels powerd by a motor? I am a very lucky girl and now have two bikes.
Motorcycles have always rather intimidated me. But, I am learning to ride them anyways. This is due to my Husband getting back into riding and wanting me to become a passenger on his bike. Nope, I control my own destiny thank you very much! However, this couldn't have ever happened without the encouragement and patience of my Husband. (thanks handsome!).
My learning started with a fairly intense 2.5 day and then two more 4 hr courses at our local college. This was step #1 and a very worthwhile one too. I learned a lot in terms of SAFETY and riding. I made it through the course, passed and acheived my M2 license (all nice and legal). Then, with much encouragement from Hubby and about 500 k's worth of practice riding 'round and 'round the neighbourhood I was set loose!

A pleasant Monday morning ride as viewed from my Hubby's perspective.
Something new we are trying out. Hubby and I each have a small XTC HD cam that we mount on our bikes. Hubby is learning how to use video editing software to make small You Tube videos and putting music to them. Quite cool. We have been watching bike vids on You Tube for some time now and have gotten quite inspired to give it a go. You will see some evidence of what we watch below as I've provided links. So, please give a watch to Hubby's Monday Morning Commute, it is relaxing and pleasant with a nice peppy tune. Say hi to him while you're there! http://www.youtube.com/user/faultycompass
Yamaha Vino 125cc - Bella Moon
Bike #1, (my first bike) is actually a scooter. A 2009 black and silver Yamaha Vino 125cc Scooter to be exact. It is a she, and her name is Bella Moon (aka. little road pig). My scooter is a lot of fun and a very cheap/practical way of getting around town. There is lots of room under the seat for my purse or whatever and I have a wonderful Givi box on the back which is ample room for a bag of groceries or shoes, clothes, books, yarn etc. (you get the picture). Mileage wise, I get 106 miles per gallon of gas - down side being she only holds a gallon at a time. Most of the time I am riding at 60-70 kph around town but am able to push 80-90 kph on the back roads outside of town.
As promised, here is a picture of Bella Moon (and me).

Kawasaki Ninja 250
Here we go... My gorgeous husband and his bike. He just loves this machine! I must admit that it is beautiful. According to Hubby and all the written and YouTube reviews I've seen it is quite fast and very nimble (for it's class). Having Hubby ride tail while we are out and about does make me feel just a little safer and more comfortable on the roads.
I do feel a little bad from time to time that my scooter and I keep him from experiencing a bit of the speed this bike is capable of. However, on the other hand I also sometimes feel relief that we are keeping him from exercising his speed capabilities (evil wifely grin here).
Oh ya, want to mention that Hubby is learning how to make videos from our rides together. We each have a small XTC 200 HD camera (made by midland) mounted on our bikes. It is quite fun to watch our rides! We also enjoy watching You Tube videos created by a few other folks (links at bottom of page). Please take a moment to check Hubby's You Tube Channel out here http://www.youtube.com/user/FaultyCompass and remember to say hi!

A girl and her wee dog
Let me introduce my wee dog Sapphire-Rose! Sapphire has come out to greet me after another "big" scooter ride. While she is not in any way afraid of the bikes, we do not take her along on our rides. I'm kind of selfish in that I love NOT having any responsibilities while I'm riding other than safety and enjoyment.
Sapphire-Rose (Monkey for short) is a poodle/chihuahua cross. And yes, she does have a permanent bad hair day (laughing) but we lover her all the more for it.
Cheers for now...

http://www.lizjansen.comTour the link above to learn about the book pictured to the right, Women, Motorcycles and the Road to Empowerment - then, read the rest of Ms. Jansen's website!
Liz is a very interesting, warm and friendly women with a ton of riding experience behind her. I was fortunate enough to pick this book up at the Bike show in Toronto this past January from her directly. It is an excellent book with lots of inspiration and motivation for getting yourself on the bike and on the road. That's my challenge for this summer - transition from my beloved scooter to the very lovely Honda CBR my Husband gave me. |
